Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is an insurance scheme that covers the life of the policy holder. You have to pay only Rs. 436 annually as a premium to avail the benefits of this policy.

This policy insures the policyholder for a cover of Rs. 2 lakhs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started this scheme. The main objective of this scheme is to provide cheap Insurance to every citizen of India under Financial Inclusion drive.

This is a life insurance policy, not an accidental insurance policy. Sometimes people assume that the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana are the same insurance policies.

But both are completely different. Where the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana only covers accidental mishaps,  the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana covers death due to any reason.

PMJJBY Insurance Claim Settlement Procedure

To reduce the turnaround time (TAT) in settlement of claims, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has launched a new web portal (MPH) for Master Policy Holders.

MPH portal has following advantage in comparison to existing Parivartan portal.

  1. Claim case reaches LIC on a real-time basis. So, faster settlement of claims.
  2. Branches can check the current status of the claim and inform to the customer – whether in process/ returned/ settled.
  3. Re-submission of papers can be done directly through the portal.
  4. At any point of time, Branches can generate information for the Claims settled through this system.

Step 1: PMJJBY Claim Documents Submission

As per the Jan Suraksha portal, claim documents should be submitted to the bank within 30 days of the death of the policyholder.

But if the nominee failed to submit claim documents due to any genuine reason, then the branch has to submit documents. They cannot deny the claim.

  • Prepare all documents as per the instructions given in the document required section of this article.
  • Do not forget to self-attest your ID proof, address proof, and account details.
  • Submit all documents along with your written application to the branch manager, and do not forget to take a xerox copy of your application.

Step 2: Documents Uploading

  • After your submission of documents, the branch has to upload duly verified and stamped scanned documents on the LIC MPH portal.
  • LIC has given special login credentials to branches to upload all claim documents in real-time so that the claim procedure becomes fast.

Step 3: Follow Up with Branch

  • Visit the branch again after 15 days to know the status of the claim settlement.
  • Please note that you have to visit the branch every 15 days to know your claim settlement status because branches are not able to follow up with customers due to staff shortages.
  • So it is your responsibility to follow up regularly with the branch.
