Kaalkoot Web Series: ‘Kaalkoot’ begins with a heart-wrenching opening scene of the acid attack.

Ravi Shankar Tripathi (Vijay Varma), a sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Thana Sarsi town, is trying to quit his job, but is assigned the task of investigating an acid attack case by SHO Jagdish Sahay (Gopal Dutt).

Jagdish Sahay clearly tells him that unless Ravi Shankar settles this matter, his resignation will not be accepted. And again this work helps him to re-establish Ravi Shankar’s determination.

Kaalkoot is directed by Sumit Saxena, co-written with Arunabh Kumar. This web series has eight-parts and it depicts the police procedural drama.

Also, this web series throws light on the ugly face of masculinity and the insensitivity of the society through the story of an acid attack survivor named Parul (Shweta).

As the story progresses, the audience watches Ravi Shankar transform from an indifferent policeman to a strong and courageous investigator who becomes completely immersed in solving the acid attack case by any means necessary.

After an intense beginning, the plot of this crime drama takes time to establish but once it does it becomes entertaining and interesting. The climax, however, is profitable, giving the series a very filmy ending.

Vijay Varma, who recently played the role of a serial killer in the crime show ‘Dahaad’, is seen ruling the screen as SI Ravi Shankar. His brilliant acting has won everyone’s heart.

In the web series Kaalkoot, he is playing the role of an honest policeman who tries to understand the intricacies of the case. Seema Biswas does a fine job as his mother, who is obsessed with finding the ideal girl for her son and seeing him settle down in life.

Shweta Tripathi Sharma delivers a riveting and soulful performance as Parul, an acid attack survivor, who evokes strong emotions with her portrayal.

Her scars look real because of her prosthetic artist (made by Dhananjay Prajapati). Other policemen played by Yashpal Sharma and Gopal Dutt help guide Ravi to the right path.

Final Views

The story of Kaalkoot web series gives a strong message and is undoubtedly a valiant effort. However, the editing feels shaky in places, and parts of the narrative seem a bit stretched.

Music tracks like ‘Jaag Tripathi’, ‘Khara Re’ as well as Raghav and Arjun’s background score, as well as the poem ‘Suli’ recited by Tigmanshu Dhulia, add to the poignancy of the mood.

However, there are many other songs which seem unnecessary and increase the length of the web series.
