The Good and Bads of Adipurush Movie
Adipurush is one of the most anticipated Indian movie of 2023. The movie is based on the epigram iron by Shri Valmiki, focusing on the story of Shri Ram’s journey to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king, Lankesh.
The film has received heavy marketing and advanced booking, but the question is whether it delivers on its promises. Here are the good and bad aspects of the film.
Music and Background Score
The music and background score are the saving grace of the film. Composed by Ajay Atul, the music invigorates and pumps the audience up for the ultimate battle ahead. The score heightens the visuals and does so much for the film.
Mixed Performances
The ensemble cast is mediocre, with no standout performances. Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh is the one who puts his best foot forward, but the styling does not help his character.
Prabhas as Raghav has a sincere and calm demeanor in the initial minutes, but his shift to aggression felt out of place.
Sunny Singh as Sheish and Kriti Sanon as Janki do a fair job, but the dialogues handed to them ruin the sacredness of the text.
The Underwhelming Aspects
- The dialogues in the film are cringe worthy and reflect more on mass commercial action films than an ancient text. The CGI and visual effects are poorly rendered and incomplete, making the frames dimmed to mask the flaws. This acts as a huge deterrent to being fully invested in the film.
- The volume of the text and fitting it into a movie with a running time of just under 3 hours means that the film skims past some of the most riveting and emotionally engaging parts of the storyline.

Review of Adi Purush Movie
The Adipurush movie, directed by Om Raut, falls short in many aspects. The event and scuffle with Surpanakha are cut too short and abrupt. Characters like Indrajeet and Kumbhkaran are treated as side characters, and the delusion that seeps into Rawan’s mind is not explored thoroughly.
The animated feature in 1992 by Hugo Sako had a much larger impact while still focusing on several subplots.
The movie attempts to create a magnum opus but fails to compare to the Ramanand Sagar series format. A character like Kumbhkaran is sadly treated like a sidekick villain and lacks any insight into his might and intellect.
The battle of Sugariv and Baali is not executed well and looks like a demo version of a mobile game.
The issue is not with the effort made by the actors but with the overconfident vision of the director. The director thought they could get away with doing the bare minimum and paper over the obvious problems by hiding behind a sacred text that is revered by an entire nation.
The introduction excerpt of this film states that if you think this adaptation does not do justice to the original text, then read the original epic by Valmiki. If the makers themselves are saying this, then what’s stopping you?

The Adipurush movie is not worth watching. The director failed to execute the subplots well and did not give insight into the characters. The battle sequences were not executed well, and the movie is not worth the investment.
